Meet Our Directors
Paula Rothman is a full time owner/director who has been at the helm for over 15 years. Her extensive experience as a day camp and school director and her work with pre-school through teenage children make her a valuable friend and advisor to our North Shore families through the summer, as well as during the off-season. She is the leader of our senior staff leadership team and takes great pride in our on-going, comprehensive staff training program. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a Master's Degree in Education.
During the winter months, Paula stays in contact with camp families and staff, organizes off-season events, tours new families, plans the following summer's activities and interviews and hires new staff members for the upcoming camp season.
Paula serves on the board of NYSCDA (New York State Camp Director's Association). She was the Vice-President and Secretary of the Long Island Camps and Private Schools (LICAPS). She has served on the Board of the American Camp Association and serves on committees for Morry's Camp and S.C.O.P.E. (Summer Camp Opportunities Provide an Edge Program). Morry's Camp and S.C.O.P.E. are both programs that provide well deserving economically disadvantaged youth with the opportunity to attend summer camp.
As a member of our leadership staff since 1999, Richie brings to NSDC more than twenty-five years experience as a day camp and sleep away camp Head Counselor and Associate Director. Throughout the year he is actively involved in staff hiring and training, program development and camp operations. An outstanding educator and Assistant Principal for over 30 years, and an author of educational books, he possesses a nurturing warmth and gentle, positive humor combined with highly professional skills and competence. Richie is respected by campers, staff and parents alike, and is a reassuring staple of the North Shore "family." He is an active member of the American Camp Association.
Brian joined the NSDC Leadership team in 2006. He holds a degree in Elementary Education and has an extensive camp and school background spanning over twenty years, including many years with the Town of Hempstead's A.N.C.H.O.R. (Answering the Needs of Children with Handicaps Through Organized Recreation) program.
Brian's enthusiasm, warmth and commitment to children through the camp experience is contagious. During the summer Brian oversees our athletic staff and our boy's upper camp divisions.
In the winter months Brian is involved in camper and staff recruitment, program development, ACA accreditation, facilities and grounds as well as capital project planning and development.
Judi joined the North Shore family in 1999. With over twenty years of camp experience, she brings a wealth of day and resident camp knowledge to our leadership team. Judi's spirit, energy and compassion is demonstrated through her daily contact with our campers, families and our staff as she helps to provide an atmosphere of fun and friendship. During the winter months Judi assists in developing programs, as well as recruiting and hiring staff. She is an active member of the American Camp Association.
