Camp is About Being A Part of A Family

Favorite TV series: Friends
Favorite Place to Travel: I have traveled to Ireland and several states within the US. It is my goal to travel to Italy one day to explore the ruins and meet some of my family there.
Favorite quote: “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end.”

My name is Julia and I live in Merrick, Long Island. I am a Sophomore in high school and  I have an adorable dog named Oisin.  I love music, movies and playing soccer (I currently play on a U19 travel team!)

I joined the NSDC family when I was five years old. I have spent 12 AMAZING summers at North Shore and cannot imagine a summer anywhere else.  I have enjoyed being a camper, a CIT, and I’m excited to be a Group Counselor this coming summer.

I love the idea of returning each summer and knowing that I will experience another season of making great memories. Without fail, I find myself always laughing at some point every day that I am in camp. I get to meet new people and rekindle old friendships. I especially love that you seem to get to know everyone. Somehow, Special Events like Decades Day, Crazy Hat Day and Olympics Day bring us all together. I have made such close friends at camp, we make it a point to stay a part of each other’s lives, even when camp is not in session. These are friends for life, not just for summertime.

Camp has become a large part of who I am and I am so very grateful for the opportunity to experience it. Being at camp has made me realize what it means to be part of a team. It really isn’t about one person; it’s about one family. Camp teaches you to look out for your friends and your campers. Being an only child, camp has meant so much more than just as a place to go. It’s about being in a place where you are accepted and loved for being who you are, and everything about you.

See you in 133 days!
