Happy New Year! Ringing In 2013

As 2012 comes to an end, most of us look back on the year nostalgically, reflecting on what we’ve accomplished and what the New Year will bring. The summer of 2012 was one of the best camp years that I can remember experiencing (barring only my own summers as a camper!) From the first day of camp to the last day, everything ran so smoothly and the summer was filled with fun and excitement. Our staff was amazing and each day brought incredible experiences for our campers.

Just a few weeks ago Long Island was rattled by Superstorm Sandy. Many of us suffered tremendous losses and are still recovering from the devastation. Yet, there was a tremendous sense of community that we don’t often experience in our day-to-day lives.  A community not unlike the one we create each summer here at camp.

Very much like camp, being disconnected from technology during the aftermath gave us an opportunity to reconnect with our family and friends and work together to accomplish our goals.  We overcame challenges and found creative alternatives to the usual path. We learned to appreciate that which we take for granted. My summers with all of my North Shore Day Camp families is something I hope to never ever take for granted…  I appreciate each and every one of you.

I look forward to what 2013 has in store for me and I wish each and every one of you a wonderful, happy and healthy New Year ahead!
