Putting Camp on Your Resume

First, summarize your role

For example…

  • Supervised and provided leadership guidance to 15 Kindergarten campers at a children’s day camp.

  • Modeled and promoted social skills, healthy relationships, appropriate risk-taking, conflict resolution and achieving goals through a variety of daily camp activities.
  • Created and implemented the basketball curriculum for 250 plus children between the ages of 3-12 years old in my role as Lead Basketball Specialist.

Next, highlight key responsibilities

For example, caring for campers…

  • Facilitated friendships for campers by helping them navigate social situations & monitoring their interpersonal skills.
  • Modeled appropriate behavior for campers including teamwork, responsibility, and sportsmanship throughout the camp day.
  • Taught children the importance of respect, kindness, and understanding through positive reinforcement.
  • Actively engaged in activities with campers, role-modeling how to have fun while maintaining a safe environment.

For example, communication with fellow staff and parents…

  • Managed challenging camper situations, partnering with fellow staff members and supervisors, to reach a resolution and responding to parent questions & concerns.
  • Collaborated with fellow counselors to share group responsibilities and problem-solved situations that arose throughout the day.
  • Communicated with parents each day as a Bus Counselor, acting as an ambassador for camp as the first and last person they spoke to each day.
  • Communicated with parents via telephone and email to discuss their children’s progress.
