Helping Children Soar to New Heights!
My name is Aubrey Siegel (on the right), originally from Binghamton, New York and currently living in Bayside, Queens. I grew up with my sister and brother and I also have a half brother and sister. My family still lives in upstate New York, but I decided to move to NYC after college at SUNY Cortland. I have a double masters and I completed my ESL degree at St. John’s University. I have been a teacher for the NYC Department of Education for the past nine years. I currently teach ESL to second graders in Flushing Queens.
I met my husband at my favorite after work spot, the gym! We have been together for seven years and spend lots of time enjoying outdoor activities. We just got married this past June! 🙂 We also enjoy going out to eat at our favorite restaurants and spending time at home relaxing on the couch watching movies. (I make him watch Twilight!)
I’m a girlie girl and love all things pink! However, that doesn’t mean I’m afraid to get my hands dirty, and that’s why I love North Shore Day Camp so much – it’s a place where I can just be me!
Four years ago I was tutoring a student that attended North Shore Day Camp and I found out all I could about working there as a counselor. I heard about the fun activities and the new and exciting things that go on every day. I took a chance and applied for a position and it was the best thing I could have ever done! NSDC is not only a fun job but an incredibly rewarding and fulfilling part of my life! I get the opportunity to relate to children on a new level and help them learn and grow outside of the classroom.
Camp has given me a new perspective on life and the ability to help play a pivotal role in the development of a child. During the summer, I look forward to being at North Shore every single day and I end up so sad every year when the summer is over. But then I remind myself that the following summer is right around the corner. Working at NSDC has become truly one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. North Shore Day Camp is a place where children can grow and and gain experiences outside of school that let’s them soar to new heights! It certainly does that for me!
