Thankful for Our NSDC Family!

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

With Turkey Day arriving tomorrow, we are so very thankful that you and your family are a part of our NSDC Family.  If you think about it, family reunions at Thanksgiving are very similar to our own camp reunions!  It’s a way to come together and reconnect – to keep in touch and maintain that bond that we have with each other.  We get to see old friends and meet new ones while spending quality time over food and fun activities, catching up on the latest news since we last saw each other!

While you prep and enjoy this long weekend, don’t forget to keep an eye out sometime in the Spring for our next reunion & Open House here at camp.  We can’t wait to see you on that special “holiday”!

From our family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving!

Fall Reunion & Open House

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

Beautiful weather, smiling faces, and pumpkins abound!  This past weekend we held our annual Fall Festival Reunion & Open House along with our friends from North Shore Day School.  Campers & students arrived (some in costumes!) and were treated to a ton of fun activities including painting pumpkins, rides on horse-drawn carriages, and taking turns bouncing on and sliding through the multiple inflatables and train rides!  With exceptional October weather, it was a spectacular day!

For our current North Shore families, this was an opportunity to return to their summer home & visit with old friends before the winter months, while it also provided prospective North Shore Families with an opportunity to tour our facilities and meet some of our wonderful staff.  Check out some of the pictures we took below!

Our Campers are Helping Others in Need

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

North Shore Day Camp Cares – and we show it along with our campers and their families in so many different ways.

This summer, our campers had the opportunity to participate in making other children’s lives better by bringing in canned and packaged food from home to help Island Harvest feed the homeless. This is Island Harvest’s first Camp Food Drive and we were so pleased to do our part to make this a tremendous success.

Our campers also took part in helping to fund camper-ships to Morry’s Camp.  Morry’s Camp is a unique four-week program which guarantees four summers of camp to under-privileged children who keep up with their school work and are positive role models in their community.

One of the ways in which we help is by having a camp-wide Swim-A-Thon.  Our campers gave it their all by either swimming or walking laps in our pools to raise money for inner city children who would otherwise not be able to attend summer camp. We keep track of what our campers accomplish and send home a record of the number of laps our campers swam (or walked for our non-swimmers).  The funds raised have truly made a difference in the lives of hundreds of children, and this year was no exception.  A HUGE thank you to our NSDC families and especially to our campers!  You have made such a difference in the lives of so many others!

It’s wonderful to see the proud faces of our campers who recognize their own selfless contributions. Through our STARFISH program we teach our campers that each individual can make a difference. Events like these show them that when each person does his or her part, together the impact is amazing!

Family Day

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

This past weekend North Shore Day Camp was filled with the laughter of children!  Although we were concerned the weather wouldn’t hold out, the smiles on everyone’s faces held-off the rain for another fun-filled Family Day!

Campers and parents enjoyed some arts & crafts, face painting, pony rides, magic shows, balloon animals, tennis, soccer and an ice cream truck was on-hand in case you wanted something to nibble on – yum!  We were also really excited to unveil our new miniature golf course, and after a few rounds on the greens, the feedback we got was: A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Check out some of the pictures below.  Only 33 more days until camp starts – we can’t wait! :)

Camp Games for a Cause

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

This past weekend, the TLC Family of Camps took part in an awesome charity event at Columbia University - Camp Games for a Cause!  Over 30 different camps in the tri-state area, represented by their camp staff, camp alumni and camp families participated in friendly competition while raising money for a wonderful cause - SCOPE.  In this, it’s inaugural year, Camp Games for a Cause raised over $34,000 for SCOPE, helping to send under-privileged inner-city kids to summer camp!

We had about 25 young alumni & staff members from the TLC family show up to compete in some favorite camp games such as gaga, volleyball, dodgeball, and a dance competition where Ross Lazerowitz from Timber Lake posed as Justin Beiber!  The day finished with a perennial camp favorite (and mass chaos!) – an Apache relay!  Although there was a valiant effort by all, the TLC Family of Camps team came in 2nd place, but that just means that next year we will be going for the gold!

Fall Festival & Reunion

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Campers and parents alike came adorned in Halloween costumes to enjoy our Fall Festival Reunion. Everyone enjoyed the hay and train rides, the inflatable bounces, painting pumpkins, the delicious snacks (the soft pretzels were definitely a favorite!) and trick or treat gifts. We were thrilled that so many campers attended. We’ll be making a donation to Project Morry for every one of them. It was wonderful seeing all of our camp families and we’re counting down the days until summer 2011! (To see photos from the day, click the “Continue reading Fall Festival Reunion” link below!) NSDC Takes On The Big Apple!

Tuesday, November 9th, 2010

As we begin our enrollment for the 2011 camp season, we’d like to share some exciting news about North Shore Day Camp with you. For many years we’ve been receiving inquiries from families who reside in Manhattan. We have always said “At North Shore, the fun begins the moment our campers get on the bus!” So before we committed to servicing campers in Manhattan, we wanted to be certain that we could guarantee that the ride would be fun, safe, and cool. Camper & Parent Orientation

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

Yesterday was a PERFECT day for our camper and parent orientations. After two weeks of staff training, our counselors were so excited to finally meet our campers!

Everyone had the opportunity to get to meet one another; Our campers got to meet our incredible staff, they also met their fellow campers and had a blast revisiting the camp grounds. Our Stepping Stones campers played in the Stepping Stones Village and had the opportunity to try out a school bus so that they’ll be ready when they see their camp bus rolling up to their home this Tuesday! Our upper camp campers had a tour of the camp and played all sorts of games to get them in that NSDC kind of mood… And our Voyagers – boy oh boy – they got to hear about all of the fun places they’ll be going to this summer. The excitement in their faces – Complete awesomeness!!!

Tuesday just can’t come soon enough!

Family Day 2010

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

One of the most frequently asked questions we get from our camp parents is “When can I come to camp and play too?” Well the answer to that question is “Family Day!”   This past Sunday was our Family Day 2010 for our upcoming NSDC summer families and we had a fantastic time! (more…)
