On their very own magical and intimate part of the campus, our Stepping Stones (campers from 2.5 – 5 years old) groups are kept small, and staffing is extensive. Activities are led by trained specialists who have early childhood expertise, and a great enthusiasm for young children. Many of our staff and campers are part of our family at North Shore Day School during the school year.
In athletics, campers have been learning so many important skills. They have been dribbling and passing in basketball; learning stick handling in hockey; passing and shooting in soccer; forehand and backhand in tennis; throwing, catching and positioning in softball; and more! It’s amazing to watch the Stepping Stones cross the low ropes, high up in the trees. And, as always, Ga-Ga has become everyone’s favorite activity!
The Stepping Stones are loving the pools too! They are learning breathing techniques, front crawl, back and front float and some have even taken the plunge and gone down the slide in the big pool! Swim periods are a refreshing part of everyone’s day.
We are having an amazing summer in Stepping Stones! Life long memories and friendships are being made every day here at North Shore Day Camp!

Hi, my name is Spencer! I’m 10 years old and I live in Roslyn. During the year I go to School in East Hills. I swim competitively on Long Island on a local swimming team. This year I qualified for the Junior Olympics in 3 events! The 100 yard Butterfly, and the 50 & 100 yard breaststroke! I enjoy traveling, swimming, and anything having to do with the ocean. I got certified as a Scuba Diver on 10-10-10. (Pretty cool date!) My travels include going up and down the Caribbean, India, Israel, Belize, Greece, and Prague!
Summer time is my favorite time of the year and I’m counting down the days (literally I have an app on my iPod Touch that counts time and I set it for the day NSDC starts) untill I can stumble down Club Hill and try to be the first one at club (if Marcy calls the boys first because the girls are already there if they call the boys second).
1) What is the number #1 thing you love most about camp?
The #1 thing I love most about camp is going to adventure. This is going to be my 6th year at NSDC and going down the zip line still never gets old!
2) What was the funniest thing that happened to you at camp?
The funniest thing that happened to me at camp is when my group was on the spider web and 4 or 5 of us were hanging upside down not knowing who – or how – which one of us was going to get off first! We all started cracking up still hanging upside down which made us laugh even harder.
3) What is your favorite memory from last summer?
My favorite memory of last year was when I caught a fish on our trip.
4) Describe camp using only 3 words:
Three words I would use to describe NSDC Is “MY FAVORITE PLACE”
5) What are you most looking forward to doing this summer?
Seeing my friends! I still see some of the friends that I made from my first year at camp and I keep meeting new friends every summer! I can’t wait to go back to camp this summer to see everyone again!

Selecting the right camp for your child is both important and impactful. When you selected NSDC as a place for your child to grow summer after summer, you entrusted us to become your “Partner in Parenting” – a role that we take very seriously when developing fun, safe & active programs each summer. As your child grows up, NSDC and the other members of the TLC Family of Camps are here to continue that partnership.
When your child is ready to move from day camp to sleep away camp, we know there are a lot of things to consider. Sleep away camp is, for most people, an experience that can last for six or more years (with memories that last for many decades after!) Such a big decision shouldn’t be made lightly, so we’ve specifically designed our Rookie Day Program to allow your child an opportunity to “taste” the sleep away camp experience, while giving you, as parents, a close-up look at our facilities, program, supervision and philosophy. Oh, and all the fun too! Each of our Resident Camps (Timber Lake, Tyler Hill and Timber Lake West) offer Rookie Days throughout the summer, hoping to help make choosing the right sleep-away camp a little easier. (more…)

As we find ourselves surrounded by snow everywhere, we figured we’d stir-up some good ‘ol memories of North Shore Day Camp by asking 5 Questions to Camper Jack L., who will be returning to camp this summer going into the second grade division.
1) What is the number #1 thing you love most about camp?
Swimming and nature!
2) What was the funniest thing that happened to you at camp?
So funny – I dressed up like Swim Director Stu and Judi took the picture and it was on the website!
3) What is your favorite memory from last summer?
The bus ride. It was always fun and I liked the activities on the bus and I loved my bus counselor!
4) Describe camp using only 3 words:
Fun
Exciting
Safe. I felt safe – the counselors were always around me and took care of me.
5) What are you most looking forward to doing this summer?
Having a good time with my friends and the counselors!

Campers and parents alike came adorned in Halloween costumes to enjoy our Fall Festival Reunion. Everyone enjoyed the hay and train rides, the inflatable bounces, painting pumpkins, the delicious snacks (the soft pretzels were definitely a favorite!) and trick or treat gifts. We were thrilled that so many campers attended. We’ll be making a donation to Project Morry for every one of them. It was wonderful seeing all of our camp families and we’re counting down the days until summer 2011! (To see photos from the day, click the “Continue reading Fall Festival Reunion” link below!) As we begin our enrollment for the 2011 camp season, we’d like to share some exciting news about North Shore Day Camp with you. For many years we’ve been receiving inquiries from families who reside in Manhattan. We have always said “At North Shore, the fun begins the moment our campers get on the bus!” So before we committed to servicing campers in Manhattan, we wanted to be certain that we could guarantee that the ride would be fun, safe, and cool.
